MM will support a combined schools choir to sing three songs. This has been a wonderful opportunity to work with teachers at each of the schools. Students have learned Noongar language from our Koorlong workshop presenters and are excited to be singing them in their own community festival!
MM is thrilled to be part of this big NAIDOC celebration! We sing on main stage at 11am, after the official flag raising and Alliwah! Dancers.
The choir will sing live on Noongar Radio - broadcasting between 12 and 3pm in celebration of NAIDOC and this year's theme: 'Because of Her, We Can'. Listen in!
Led by deadly performer Della Rae Morrison (born in Narrogin :o), Noongar songs and stories with Madjitil Moorna Choir and the community of Narrogin. Very casual.....in the park. We'll bring songbooks and worksheets and ask people to join us if/when you want. Noongar language and pronunciation explained. Dr Stacy Mader from CSIRO and Parkes Observatory in NSW will speak about - Astronomy and Space Missions with Parkes - Giant outflows from young stars in Orion - Orion: stars shared across time. Performances by Madjitil Moorna Choir and storytelling by Aboriginal Cultural Leader Josie Wowolla Boyle and her 'art and stories' partner, Bronwyn Goss. Gates open 5:50. Picnic and singing 6-7:00pm, followed by the talk and stories. This will be a unique and fascinating meeting of cultures, ancient and new.
Reflect with the choir on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the Apology to Stolen Generations. The evening will include conversation, reflection and singing, to bring us closer on the journey of healing. All welcome. A free event, proudly supported by the Healing Foundation. The Healing Foundation partners with communities to address ongoing trauma caused by the dis-ruption and mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people over the past 230 years. This includes actions like the forced removal of tens of thousands of children from their families, known as the Stolen Generations.

This school holidays don’t miss NAIDOC Family Day, proudly presented in partnership with Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service Inc as part of National NAIDOC Week. Keep an eye out for the event poster, featuring artist Jade Dolman’s reflection on Noongar culture and language in recognition of this year’s National NAIDOC Week theme – Our Languages Matter. Entirely FREE
The day celebrates Aboriginal language, culture and art with live performances, hands-on fun for all ages giveaways, and more! Join Derek Nannup of Yanchep National Park for his didgeridoo and dance demonstrations, and experience bush tucker and Noongar Culture demos by Bindi Bindi Dreaming. You can even pick up a brush and join the crew from Urban Indigenous in painting a huge community canvas. Other attractions include native animals from Critters Up Close, rides, and the ever-popular Sports and Youth zones.
Onstage highlights include Bassendean’s own Gina Williams performing her Award-Winning songs in Noongar, and a showcase of performers from Abmusic.
Alongside Derbarl Yerrigan’s Moorditj Healthy Lifestyle Zone visit a range of stalls offering activities and information as well as the ever-popular Deadly Jobs Expo, presented by Aboriginal Workforce Development Centre Perth.
Commence the Day with the ‘Dandjoo Koorliny’ Reconciliation Walk and Flag Raising Ceremony. Meet outside Council Administration Centre at 10.00am, then join participants as they walk in unity to Ashfield Reserve for Flag Raising and Welcome to Country Ceremonies.
