This school holidays don’t miss NAIDOC Family Day, proudly presented in partnership with Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service Inc as part of National NAIDOC Week. Keep an eye out for the event poster, featuring artist Jade Dolman’s reflection on Noongar culture and language in recognition of this year’s National NAIDOC Week theme – Our Languages Matter. The day celebrates Aboriginal language, culture and art with live performances, hands-on fun for all ages giveaways, and more! Join Derek Nannup of Yanchep National Park for his didgeridoo and dance demonstrations, and experience bush tucker and Noongar Culture demos by Bindi Bindi Dreaming. You can even pick up a brush and join the crew from Urban Indigenous in painting a huge community canvas. Other attractions include native animals from Critters Up Close, rides, and the ever-popular Sports and Youth zones.
Onstage highlights include Bassendean’s own Gina Williams performing her Award-Winning songs in Noongar, and a showcase of performers from Abmusic. Alongside Derbarl Yerrigan’s Moorditj Healthy Lifestyle Zone visit a range of stalls offering activities and information as well as the ever-popular Deadly Jobs Expo, presented by Aboriginal Workforce Development Centre Perth. Commence the Day with the ‘Dandjoo Koorliny’ Reconciliation Walk and Flag Raising Ceremony. Meet outside Council Administration Centre at 10.00am, then join participants as they walk in unity to Ashfield Reserve for Flag Raising and Welcome to Country Ceremonies. Parking
